How To Write A Love Poem
Anyone who has experienced love, passion, a broken heart, or even a love lost can put pen to paper and write a love poem. A love poem is something that many people attempt at least once in their life when trying to show their feeling through words. Those words don’t have to be an award winning prose, but something meaningful and passionate.
Writing love poems can be seen as a gift to those who receive them. People are intimidated by the thought of writing poetry, and a love poem is the most daunting. However, the opposite is true. Writing love poems can be really easy when your heart is in tandem with someone else’s.
Often times you can write amazing prose just by sitting down and letting your heart guide your hand. Without thinking many people can create brilliant poetry because they are tapped into their feelings and the words come out without any interference. Passion, feelings, emotions, and even hurt can be easily put onto paper when your heart writes them. The key in this step is to not try to write a poem, but to just put words on paper.
Once the initial flurry of writing is over it is now time to clean it up a little. The key to the first step is to write without thinking, now you want to check it over and change out any verbs or adjectives with ones that are stronger or fit better. Also, if you didn’t include a literary theme, such as a metaphor for your love, now is the time to think about one and craft the verbs and adjectives to align with it.
Poems have a certain style that writers like to adhere to. While these are certainly not required, it is good to keep within a few guides. A poem is made up of lines and stanzas. A line is a string of words which may, or may not be, a full sentence. There is no rule for the length of a line, but mostly a line of 10 to 12 words is a good rule to follow.
A poem is really two principles working together to form the look of a poem we all know. Each poem has lines, that are roughly 10 to 12 words in length, and are separated by a comma, semi-colon, or period. Each group of four to 5 lines (sometimes a few more to complete the thought) is then put into groupings called stanzas. These are really the blocks of words that you usually see as a poem.
Writing a love poem is not an overwhelming task for anyone who is passionate about their love for someones. Use these simple tips to write your love poem as a gift, in a card, or as a reminder of your love.
